2-Minute Short Film Competition
This year for our summer project we hosted a 2-minute short film competition which put our actors in control.
The competition brief allowed the members to take the reins, giving them full autonomy over what they created. In small groups, they made their own 2-minute short films, filmed and edited entirely on their own devices. With just a few weeks to conceptualise, storyboard, rehearse, film and edit, each and every actor stepped up to the challenge. To judge the competition, we brought in professional actor Riad Richie (the RSC, BBC, Disney and the National Theatre), to select one winning entry per group.

From superheroes to hopeless funeral planners, from comedy to horror, from vampires out hunting — underscored by a blues soundtrack — to a murderous teacher dressed as a dog, we were blown away by the creativity and total commitment to the project. We were also hugely impressed by the practical effects, visual effects, and special effects makeup used by the actors. And of course, the enormous inflatable dinosaur costume which starred in one of the winning films.

Riad Richie named the following winners:
Under 12s: ‘The Fun-eral’ by Millie, Esmé, Eleanor and Freya
12-16s: ‘Dinosaur Alley’ by Esme, Bella, Priyanka, Syrus and Jack
Over 16s 5pm: ‘Let’s Dance’ by Sariah, Emily, Matilda and Ruby
Over 16s 7pm: ‘The End’ by Dylan, Will, Luke and Manjina
A huge congratulations to our winners, but praise too to all our actors, for, true to form, jumping in headfirst and producing some amazing work.
